Chelsea vs Liverpool - Combined XI

This time, Liverpool face another tough test on Friday night as they head to Stamford Bridge to do battle with the unbeaten Chelsea. Chelsea - Liverpool fixtures are never short of entertainment and goals, you have to go back as far as 2008 to find the last 0-0 draw between these two sides. Both sides have great histories, but for the current situation, who would make combined side? Let's take a look at the combined XI.

Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois

Thibaut Courtois beats Belgian international teammate Simon Mignolet.  As for Courtois, he is a superb up and coming goalkeeper, but someone argue that Courtois has failed to live up to his potential since joining Chelsea, managing just five clean sheets in 23 appearances last term, the Belgian surely represents a more solid option than much.

Right Back: Nathaniel Clyne

Clyne and Ivanovic are both options. They both gets the balance between defence and attack spot on. The pair have different strengths, but Clyne certainly has the edge in terms of attacking prowess.

Centre Back: John Terry

John Terry is still a good option than Dejan Lovren in spite of injury and EA really rate him. Based on last season's performances, this will be his last season at Stamford Bridge as his high standards start to slip.

Centre Back: Gary Cahill

It's no doubt that he is one of best defenders in the world. But it seems over the past 18 months those performances have been few and far between. It was certainly tough to choose between Cahill and Dejan Lovren, Liverpool's defensive woes suggest an almost-red back line would be risky.

Left Back: Cesar Azpilicueta

Azpilicueta is arguably one of the best left-backs in the league, but given Liverpool's left back problems (James Milner is the number one choice), Azpilicueta is a certainty in this side.

Defensive Midfield: N'Golo Kante

A simply sensational campaign at Leicester got him into this side. His ability to win the ball back, start attacks as well as his midfield engine makes him the new Claude Makelele, he is perhaps Chelsea's best bit of business this summer.

Defensive Midfield: Emre Can

Emre Can has demonstrated remarkable consistency in spite of his tender years. The German international, who featured for his country at Euro 2016, will be a vital player for Liverpool.

Attacking Midfield: Sadio Mane

His pace and power have completely transformed Liverpool for the better. In three games, Mane has notched a pair of goals and an assist, and it is no coincidence that the Reds posed comparatively little attacking threat when he was missing against Burnley.

Attacking Midfield: Eden Hazard

He had an absolute stinker last season, but there is just no leaving out Eden Hazard. After his 'annus horribilis', Eden Hazard is showing signs of returning to his brilliant best, having already scored twice this season.

Striker: Diego Costa

He goes charging around demanding the ball, and when he shoots he almost always makes the goalkeeper work. Roberto Firmino also had started the season well, but Costa's flexibility to play as a target man or run the channels gets him the nod.
